What can Chiropractors treat? The most commonly known area Chiropractors treat is lower back pain. However, a wide variety of conditions ranging from your head all the way down to your feet can be treated! These include but are not limited to; headaches, neck pain, sciatica, jaw pain, rotator cuff injuries and muscular spasms. Shockwave Therapy is incredibly effective for tendinitis injuries, which are most commonly seen in plantar fasciitis, tennis/golfers elbow, Achilles and patellar tendinitis. Laser Therapy helps in the reduction of inflammation and to accelerate tissue regeneration, so is very beneficial for conditions such as; disc herniations, sciatica, neuropathic pain, bursitis and sprains/strains.

How many appointments will I need? This is dependent on numerous factors, which will be carefully considered by your practitioner. For example, the time frame of your complaint, the severity of your symptoms or whether your lifestyle is hindering your recovery. After taking a thorough history and examination during your initial new patient appointment, the estimated amount of appointments necessary will be discussed with you.

What is the clicking sound associated with Chiropractic treatment?Chiropractors spend thousand of hours perfecting where and when manipulating a joint is necessary. When a tight joint is precisely adjusted, it can now move more freely and this causes nitrogen gas bubbles to be released from the joint. This results in the clicking or popping sound you may have heard or seen been carried out before. It can be an incredibly helpful tool in your recovery and, alongside other treatment modalities, very beneficial to you and your complaint.

What are the differences between a Chiropractor and a Physiotherapist/Osteopath?No matter the health profession, we are all trying to achieve the same goal - to make you the best possible version of yourself! Traditionally, Chiropractors focus more on joint manipulation, whilst other professions focus on releasing muscular tension. However, it depends on the practitioner themselves as you may find a Chiropractor who focuses more on the muscular side of treatment and an Osteopath/Physiotherapist who leans more towards spinal manipulation. It is important to find a practitioner whose techniques work for you and your goals. Some tips to find the right practitioner for you: Trust the people around you. Nothing is better than word of mouth! Speak to the practitioner. Ask about their training, qualifications and how they practice. They will be more than willing to discuss this with you. All professions should provide a high level of care, so if you do not feel like you are receiving this, seek the advice of someone else.

What if I’m unsure if Chiropractic will help me?We offer free 20 minute consultations with a practitioner, which can either be in person or over the telephone, to assess whether any of our services would be suitable for you. Feel free to get in touch via our Contact page.
-
What happens if I miss my appointment?Rearranging or cancelling your appointment over 24 hours beforehand is free of charge. However, cancellations within 24 hours will be charged 50% of your appointment fee. If you do not attend and we have not been informed, you will be charged the full amount of your appointment. We understand emergencies or illnesses can happen and we sympathise prior notice cannot always be given in certain circumstances. We provide a confirmation service, where you will receive a text or email the day before your appointment. This is only a reminder to you and it is your responsibility to attend your appointment at the specified time.

Do you accept patients via health insurance?Although we do not deal with insurance companies directly, we will be more than happy to provide you with a receipt of your appointments. It is your responsibility to determine whether any of our services are recognised with your insurance provider.
-
Does the treatment hurt?A range of techniques are used during Chiropractic treatments and these can produce varied responses. However, it is very important to us that your treatment can always be tolerated throughout. Even though it may produce a click sound, generally spinal manipulation is very comfortable to have. It is normal to experience mild pain after your treatment for up to 2 days, similar to the aches you may expect after a workout, as your body is adapting to the treatment.
-
Do you have parking?Waitrose car park is located just across the road, less than a minute's walk away. This is free for up to 1.5 hours. Alternatively there is a free small car park opposite, which is even closer if there are spaces available.
-
Do you do emergency appointments? At Total Health Chiropractic, our aim is to ensure you can be seen within two working days. This allows us to reduce your symptoms as quickly as possible and improve your rate of recovery. We also think it is important to minimise the amount of time it takes to see a practitioner, which you may be experiencing elsewhere. If you are looking to book an appointment outside of our opening hours, please feel free to contact us via email and we will endeavour to help.
-
How long and how much are the appointments? We allow up to 60 minutes for New Patient and Diagnostic Ultrasound appointments and up to 20 minutes for Chiropractic, Laser Therapy and Shockwave Therapy appointments. All of our fees can be found on our Pricing page.

What qualifications does a Chiropractor have?Chiropractors train for a total of five years to qualify as a Chiropractor.
